Southern Oregon University has decided to discontinue its intercollegiate women’s tennis program effective immediately.

The program competed as an NAIA Independent without any conference affiliation. The University announced that the program would continue as a club sport.

The Southern Oregon women's tennis team finished the 2010 regular season with a split today in Caldwell, Idaho.

The Raiders dropped a tough 5-4 setback to Montana State-Billings to start the day and then defeated College of Idaho 8-1 in the season finale.

The Raiders wrap up the season 4-7 overall and will host the Ashland Tennis Club in an exhibition match on April 3.

The Southern Oregon women's tennis team took a rare match, but ended up fall to 15th-ranked and regional juggernaut Lewis-Clark State 8-1 today in Lewiston, Idaho.

Lewis-Clark State improved to 4-8 on the season. Southern Oregon dropped to 3-6 and will wrap up the regular season tomorrow when they take on Montana State-Billings and College of Idaho.

"We came out and competed," SOU head coach Ari Zaslow said. "We were in a lot of the matches and showed that we belong and we can compete with them."

The Southern Oregon women's tennis team held tough, but couldn't do enough and fell to NCAA Division II Sonoma State 9-0 today at Rohnert Park, Calif.

Sonoma State, ranked 45th in the NCAA Division II polls, improved to 8-5 on the season. Southern Oregon wrapped up a week-long road trip and fell to 3-5 on the season.

Continuing with the toughest schedule in program history, the Southern Oregon women's tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision to second-ranked Fresno Pacific today in Fresno, Calif.

Fresno Pacific improved to 15-1 on the season with the victory. Southern Oregon dropped to 3-4. The four losses have come to NCAA Division I's Portland State and Seattle University and NAIA's second-ranked Fresno Pacific and seventh-ranked Vanguard. The road trip continues tomorrow at NCAA Division II Sonoma State.

The Raiders take on Sierra College tomorrow in an exhibition match before facing Vanguard Monday.

"The girls all played and played along with our game plan which was not to beat ourselves," SOU head coach Ari Zaslow said.

The Raiders improved to 2-2 on the season with the victory. The NCAA Division III Boxers dropped to 2-4.

The Southern Oregon women's tennis team scored its first victory of the year as they split a pair of matches today in Portland.

The Raiders knocked off NCAA Division III George Fox 8-1 and then fell to NCAA Division I Seattle University 7-0.

Southern Oregon (1-2) will take on NCAA Division II Pacific tomorrow in Forest Grove.
