Both the Southern Oregon men’s and women’s cross country teams looked impressive at today’s Oregon State Beaver Classic in Corvallis.

The second-ranked SOU men scored the team victory by knocking off a field of 19 teams and defeating second place Seattle University 28-57. The SOU women had their top performance of the season, finishing second to NCAA Division Portland 53-81. Cascade Conference foe Northwest Christian, who received votes in the latest NAIA Poll, finished sixth with 142 points.

The Raiders are now off until Nov. 7 when they take part in the Cascade Conference Championships in Springfield.

“I think both teams are ready for conference,” SOU head coach Brent Ericksen said. “I’m really excited for the women. It’s exciting to see them starting to come together as a team.”

David Laney continued his impressive season by winning the individual title with a time of 24:21. Dennis McCaffrey finished sixth in 25:01 and was followed closely by Ryan Sorenson in seventh at 25:02. Ryan Ghelfi finished 10th in 25:10 and Hector Aleman was 23rd in 25:39.

The SOU men’s unattached team finished 10th out of the 19 teams.

On the women’s side, freshman Seena Frantz finished fourth in 22:04. Anya Martinez (22:49) and Tara Krempley (22:53) finished 12th and 13th, while Kristen Juveland finished 27th in 23:21 and Kelly Clark finished 39th in 23:45.
