The Southern Oregon volleyball team will hits the road this weekend in search of the Cascade Conference Tournament crown in Caldwell, Idaho.
After finishing tied with College of Idaho for the conference regular season championship, the Raiders lost out on the fourth tiebreaker (sets won) and will have to travel for the conference tournament.
Southern Oregon (23-2, 17-1) takes on Eastern Oregon (15-8, 13-5) in the first semifinal at 4 p.m. (MST) Friday and College of Idaho (22-2, 17-1) hosts Concordia (16-9, 13-5) in the second semifinal at 7 p.m. (MST). The finals are set for 3 p.m. (MST) on Saturday.
Southern Oregon defeated Eastern Oregon both times during conference play and both times in four sets.
A victory could set up another titanic battle between SOU and C of I, the two best teams in the conference and two of the top teams in the Nation.
Southern Oregon, despite winning 14 in a row and not dropping a set in the last seven victories, somehow dropped to 13th from 12th in this week's final Top 25 poll. The Coyotes remained at No. 8.
Both teams won on their respective home courts during the regular season matchups and SOU was up 2-0 and serving for the match in Caldwell, before the Coyotes staged an impressive comeback.
Both teams should be almost locks for the NAIA National Tournament and are now playing for high seeds. If teams are seeded in the Top 11, they will advance straight to the National Tournament in Iowa Dec. 1-5. If they are outside the Top 11, they will have to play a National Tournament Opening Round match on Nov. 21. SOU has placed a bid to host the opening round match if they are not in the Top 11.
The seeds and National Tournament field will be announced Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m.
