The fourth-ranked Southern Oregon wrestling team opened up the 2009-10 dual season with a 33-10 victory over 15th-ranked Montana State-Northern tonight in Havre, Mont.

The victory included two falls for SOU and an upset of a returning All-American.

SOU's top-ranked sophomore Mitchell Lofstedt (Roseburg, Ore./Roseburg) opened up the dual with a 2:22 pin of Montana State-Northern's Chase Dirden at 125 pounds.

Brian Jacob (Tillamook, Ore./Tillamook) and Kyle Wirkuty (Portland, Ore./Centennial) followed that up with back-to-back major decisions and then Jimmy Eggemeyer (Kodiak, Alaska/Kodiak) and Justin Mills (Lakeport, Calif./Clear Lake) had victories to set up the second SOU fall of the night.

Robert Mannenbach (Eagle Point, Ore./Eagle Point) kept the rout on with a pin of Jim Smith in 2:37 at 165.

Austin Vanderford (Ninilchik, Alaska/Ninilchik) then had the victory of the night for the Raiders, upsetting fourth-ranked and returning All-American Austin Ouellette at 174.

After dropping matches at 184 and 197, senior John Bates (Oregon City, Ore./Oregon City) wrapped up the match for the Raiders with a 14-5 major decision victory at Heavyweight.

Southern Oregon will battle ranked squads Missouri Valley (second), Great Falls (sixth) and Dickinson State (12th) tomorrow in Great Falls.

"We got huge wins from Robbie at 165 and Austin upsetting an All-American was huge," SOU head coach Mike Ritchey said. "We will get tested again tomorrow going against three ranked teams."
