The Southern Oregon women's tennis team scored its first victory of the year as they split a pair of matches today in Portland.

The Raiders knocked off NCAA Division III George Fox 8-1 and then fell to NCAA Division I Seattle University 7-0.

Southern Oregon (1-2) will take on NCAA Division II Pacific tomorrow in Forest Grove.

Against George Fox, the Raiders dropped the No. 1 doubles match and then came back to claim the No. 2 doubles match with an 8-4 victory by Allison Bostrom and Emma Wilson. The Raiders won the third doubles match by forfeit.

The Raiders swept through the singles matches against the Bruins.

Bostrom won the No. 1 singles match with a 6-1, 6-1 effort. Freshman Lexi Thomas battle through a tough first set to win 6-4, 6-2. Addie Morrow and Liz Kiger won the No. 3 and No. 4 singles matches by identical 6-0, 6-2 scores. Wilson won the No. 5 singles match 6-0, 6-1 before the Raiders won the No. 6 singles match by forfeit.

The Raiders ran up against stiff competition against Seattle University.

"We competed well," SOU head coach Ari Zaslow said. "But they are a really good Division I program. They are a level above Portland State. Allison (Bostrom) and Katrina (Sauer) both played really well and the scores don't really show it."
