The Southern Oregon men came away with an NAIA Provisional mark in the 4x100 relay to highlight the Raiders' effort during Day Two of the Cascade Conference Track and Field Championships at Mt. Hood Community College.
The Raiders' squad of Josh Denson,
Brandon Ritchie (Grants Pass, Ore./Grants Pass),
Dennis Olstedt (Seaside, Ore./Seaside) and
Kwame Agyemang (San Jose, Calif./Achimota) won the event with a time of 42.36, which ranks as the fifth fastest time in school history and is the first relay conference championship on the men's side for SOU since 2005.
In the team race, Concordia has virtually already locked up the team titles on both the men's (127 points) and women's (161) sides.The SOU men sit in second place with 87.5 points and the SOU women sit in fourth with 47 points. Southern Oregon has come away with three titles and nine All-Conference honors during the first two days.
Agyemang and Olstedt also had big days in their individual events.
Agyemang won the 100 with a time of 10.90, while Ritchie finished sixth at 11.33. Olstedt finished second in the 110 hurdles with a time of 15:30 to claim All-Conference honors. In the women's 100 hurdles,
Chenin Young (Upland, Calif./Upland) finished fourth (15.62) and
Amy Nelson (Eugene, Ore./Henry D. Sheldon) finished seventh (17.12).
Senior
Rosie Converse (Colorado Springs, Colo./Pine Creek) broke the 4,000 point mark in the heptathlon for the first time in her career as she earned All-Conference honors with a third place finish in the event. Converse finished with 4,068 points which is the fifth most in school history. Converse will now have to wait to see where that total ranks on the NAIA National list after this weekend in regards to a trip to the National Championships.
Junior
Seth Lindquist (Boring, Ore./Damascus Christian) earned All-Conference honors in the long jump with a third place finish and a leap of 22-03.75. Young finished seventh in the long jump with a leap of 15-06.
Senior
Levi Roudebush (Grants Pass, Ore./North Valley) just missed out on All-Conference honors in the 1,500 with a fourth place finish in a time of 3:55.00.
In the men's steeplechase,
James Johnstone (Lake Arrowhead, Calif./Rim of the World) scored an NAIA Automatic mark and All-Conference honors with a second place finish and a time of 9:28.83. Teammate
Colin McRoberts (Lake Forest, Ore./El Toro) finished sixth with a time of 10:07.33.
In the women's steeplechase,
Kelly Clark (Laguna Niguel, Calif./Aliso Niguel) finished fifth with a time of 11:54.43.
In the women's hammer, Katie Higgins finished sixth (123-04) and
Tamara Beardsley (Coos Bay, Ore./Marshfield) finished eighth (116-08) and in the men's 400
Alex Waroff (Rogue River, Ore./Rogue River) finished fifth in 50.15 and Olstedt finished seventh in 50.53.
Denali Cox (Ontario, Ore./Ontario) finished fifth in the women's 100 with a time of 12.94.
The Championships wrap up tomorrow afternoon.
