The Southern Oregon softball team will get a chance to play for a berth in the NAIA National Tournament this Friday and Saturday when they take part in the Cascade Conference Postseason Tournament in Portland.
Third-seeded Southern Oregon (16-22, 12-12) will take on second-seeded Corban (22-21, 14-8) in the opener at Noon at Delta Park. The winner will face fourth-ranked Concordia (32-4, 21-3) at 3 p.m. in Game One of a best-of-three matchup. The second and third games will be played Saturday starting at Noon. The winner of the conference tournament gets an automatic berth in the NAIA National Championships.
Southern Oregon enters the tournament with a 2-2 record against Corban and a 2-2 record against Concordia. Of Concordia’s three conference setbacks and four overall losses, two have come at the hands of the Raiders.
Concordia and Corban enter the tournament as the top two hitting teams in the conference. Concordia is batting .340 as a team, while Corban is batting .308. Southern Oregon enters the tournament with a .287 batting average.
Concordia and Corban are also the top two pitching teams in the conference. Concordia has a 1.68 ERA, while Corban has a 2.81. Southern Oregon has a 4.23 ERA.
Individually, Southern Oregon freshman Jessica Flores ranks sixth in the conference in batting at .390 and Meghan Laughlin ranks 11th at .361.
Sophomore Kathryn Moy recently broke school record for doubles in a season, while senior Bailey Price should break the school record for putouts in a career this weekend. Price currently has 776 putouts and needs eight more to best Amy Williams’ record of 783. Price also ranks fourth in school history for games played with 139.
The Raiders last advanced to the Cascade Conference Tournament in 2006 (the conference didn’t have a tournament last year) and has never made it to NAIA National Tournament.
