Box Score LA GRANDE – Southern Oregon clinched a spot in the 2012 Cascade Collegiate Conference Tournament Sunday afternoon, tying Eastern Oregon 1-1 in double-overtime in the 2012 regular season finale.

Southern Oregon closes out the regular season with a 9-5-2 overall record, 5-2-2 in conference play, while Eastern Oregon finishes its season with a 1-13-2 overall mark, 1-6-2 in the CCC. The Raiders tie for third in the final conference standings with 17 points, and with the tournament's third seed they will travel to Portland for a semifinal match against second-seeded and third-ranked Concordia on Saturday at 7 p.m.

“I would call that one of the gutsiest efforts from our team this year,” SOU head coach Jon Clement said. “You have to give Eastern Oregon credit, because after they absorbed a good amount of pressure from us early in the game they scored a very nice goal to go ahead.”

Kelli Jones gave Eastern Oregon a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute, scoring off a pass from Mauriana Gonzalez. The Mountaineers held the advantage deep into the second half despite a 26-6 shot advantage for Southern Oregon in the match.

With the Raiders needing a win or a tie to clinch a postseason berth in the CCC Tournament, Julie Zamzow (Boise, Idaho/Bishop Kelly) scored in the 87th minute following a pass from Jacquie Galvez (Temecula, Calif./Temecula Valley). Southern Oregon proceeded to shut out the Mountaineer offense the rest of the way, not allowing a single shot in either of the overtime periods to earn the tie and a spot in the conference tournament.

“We had the fortitude to keep battling, and our perseverance paid off and the tying goal came. For the most part, we managed the game out well in the overtime,” Clement said. “We had some really good defending from our whole back line, and they pretty much limited the opposing teams to not much on Friday and again not much today. Our stellar defending allowed us to stay in the game and score the tying goal.”

Katelyn Allen (Citrus Heights, Calif./El Camino Fundamental) and Kailey Moss played all 110 minutes in goal for the two teams, with each posting identical line scores of one goal allowed and two saves.

“We're very excited for the opportunity to take on Concordia in the conference semifinals and we're really looking forward to next weekend,” Clement said.
