ASHLAND – A week removed from beating up on some NCAA Division II competition, the 21^st-ranked Southern Oregon women's basketball team will return to its own level at 1 p.m. Sunday against Pacific Union (0-2) at Riehm Arena.

Raider coaches and players will honor Stan Gida at halftime of the game. Gida, who passed away on Oct. 21 after suffering a stroke, was a beloved local sports figure for a couple decades, having coached football at SOU and Ashland High for more than 20 years. He served as a volunteer strength coach for the Raider women's basketball team from 2012-14 while his daughter Allison, an All-Cascade Conference forward, played on the team.

SOU is 3-0 for the seventh straight season even without the benefit of last week's wins. Those, played in Denver against Regis University and Metro State, were exhibitions. The Raiders have four counters remaining – plus one more exhibition on Dec. 2 at San Jose State – before getting into Cascade Conference play on Dec. 5, but this is their last at home.

Last week: The Raiders defeated Regis 92-72 on Friday and Metro State 88-82 on Saturday in the Metro State Tipoff Classic. SOU point guard Ashley Claussen (Scotts Valley, Calif./Santa Cruz) was named the MVP of the tournament, and Carly Meister (Elma, Wash./Elma) and Kristen Schoenherr (Rainier, Wash./Rainier) were named to the all-tournament team.

Claussen averaged 23 points on 14-for-28 shooting and 5.5 assists in the wins. Meister had a career night Friday, going 16-for-20 with 33 points and 10 rebounds, and Schoenherr averaged 15.5 points with 24 against Metro State.

The Raiders went 40-for-66 from the floor against Regis. They held their opponents to 41.6-percent shooting

…Back to stats that count: The Raiders started their season scoring as efficiently as was expected when they were picked to win the CCC title. They're shooting 52 percent from the floor, 31 percent from 3-point range and 78 percent from the free-throw line as a team, averaging 89 points.

All three players scoring in double figures are shooting over 58 percent: Alexi Smith (Bakersfield, Calif./Stockdale) (16 points per game), Autumn Durand (Onalaska, Wash./Onalaska) (13.7) and Schoenherr (13.3). Seven players are posting at least seven points, and the Raiders have an average rebounding advantage of plus-14.

About Pacific Union: The Pioneers are 0-10 all-time against the Raiders and lost 101-73 in Ashland last season. They went 7-20 overall and 2-10 in the California Pacific Conference last season, and were picked to finish sixth in the Cal Pac this season.

The Pioneers have already lost to a couple CCC opponents: Oregon Tech (78-40) and Northwest Christian (62-50). Guards Monique Davis (10 points) and Rachel London (nine points) are their top scoring threats.
