ASHLAND – Southern Oregon University's Corynn Kopra and Ray Schireman have been named Cascade Conference Red Lion Players of the Week following impressive weekend performances, the league office announced Monday.

Schireman, a sophomore from North Medford High, was the obvious choice for men's runner of the week after he represented the Raider men's cross country team with the individual title Saturday afternoon at the Cascade Conference Championships. He ran a challenging, hill-heavy 8,000-meter course at Corban University in 25 minutes 27.7 seconds for a nine-second victory and led SOU to its eighth consecutive team title.

Schireman and the Raiders, who were ranked second in the final NAIA Top 25 poll of the regular season released Sunday, will compete next at the NAIA Championships in Charlotte, N.C., on Nov. 21.

Kopra had 27 kills in six sets over the weekend in 16th-ranked SOU's sweeps at Northwest Christian and Corban.  She recorded 15 with six digs and three blocks Friday and had 12 kills and 10 digs Saturday, attacking at a combined average of .269. SOU (24-3 overall, 17-3 CCC) secured second place with the wins and will play at 4 p.m. Friday in the CCC tournament semifinals in La Grande against an opponent yet to be determined.
