Points for the standings are awarded based on individual teams' finishes at NAIA Championship events. SOU finished the fall with 253.5, just behind first-place Biola (Calif.)'s 313 and ahead of Columbia (Mo.)'s 248.

The Raiders got points out of four sports, led by 90 from the football team's runner-up finish. The women's cross country team earned 61.5 points after taking 14th place at the NAIA Championships, it best finish since 2010. The 13th-place women's volleyball team and 23rd-place men's cross country team earned 51 points apiece.

In last year's Directors' Cup, SOU was in first place after both the fall and winter seasons. SOU ultimately was sixth when spring sports were completed, which was still easily the school's best-ever finish. The previous best had been 18th place in 2012-13.

The Cascade Collegiate Conference is well-represented overall in the standings, with College of Idaho in sixth place (206.5), women's cross country champion Northwest Christian in 17th place (158.5) and Eastern Oregon at No. 50 (76).

A total of 89 NAIA teams scored points during the fall.

SOU is in position to add to its total this winter with a 10th-ranked men's wrestling team, 10th-ranked men's basketball team and 13th-ranked women's basketball team. Because it is not yet an official NAIA-sanctioned activity, women's wrestling will not be able to score, but the Raiders can get additional points this winter from men's and women's indoor track and field.
