ASHLANDLauren McGowne, Marcus Montano and Southren Oregon University volleyball team have received kudos from the Cascade and Frontier Conference offices Monday following stellar weekend performances.

McGowne, a junior from Coos Bay, was named the CCC Red Lion setter of the week for the second time this season after recording 79 assists in just six sets of work at Evergreen (Wash.) and Northwest (Wash.). McGowne currently leads the NAIA in assists at 11.9 per set, and on two occasions over the weekend she had 17 in a single set.  The 42 assists she totaled against Evergreen were her most ever in a three-set match, and at Northwest she led the Raiders to a season-best attacking average of .340.

The ninth-ranked Raiders were named the CCC's Adidas team of the week after their 10th and 11th straight wins and sixth and seventh straight sweeps. Their 25-19, 25-18, 25-11 win over Northwest – which was previously undefeated in CCC play – was particularly convincing. They'll be home to host Multnomah and Warner Pacific at 7 p.m. Friday and 5 p.m. Saturday.

Montano, a freshman kicker on the Raider football team from Manteca, Calif., put the finishing touches on Saturday's 38-35 win over Eastern Oregon and was named the Frontier special teams player of the week. Trailing 35-14, SOU scored touchdowns on three straight possessions and got three stops in a row before Montano drilled a 27-yard field goal for the win with four seconds left. Montano has made all five of his point-after chances and all three field goals, the others being from 38 and 41 yards.
