KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Southern Oregon University football team's 1-1 start resulted in a slight dip to No. 4 in the NAIA Top 25, while two Frontier Conference teams made returns to the rankings first coaches' poll of the regular season.

SOU was tied for the top in the preseason poll with Marian (Ind.). This week the Knights collected all 15 first-place votes and were followed by Morningside (Iowa) and Lindsey Wilson (Ky.), all off to 2-0 starts.

The Raiders started their season with a 26-20 loss at then No. 4 Carroll, and on Saturday scored the final 24 points in a 38-35 win over then No. 13 Eastern Oregon. Carroll, which on Saturday lost 19-10 at Montana Tech, slid to No. 7. Eastern Oregon is now 0-3 and out of the poll.

Montana Tech (2-0) was rewarded by shooting the 15th, its first NAIA Top 25 appearance since September of 2013. It had been just as long since Montana Western was in the poll, but the Bulldogs are now 19th after defeating Rocky Mountain on the road (49-6) and College of Idaho at home (24-20).

The Great Plains Athletic Conference is the only other conference with four ranked teams – No. 2 Morningside (Iowa), No. 9 Northwestern (Iowa), No. 14 Doane (Neb.) and No. 22 Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.).

SOU peaked at No. 4 during the regular season in 2014, spending a week there on two separate occasions.
