Biography

2020: Ended the abbreviated season at No. 12 on the NAIA's all-time wins list with a 90-17 record... Went 13-0 with a 1.66 ERA and 11 complete games over 84 1/3 innings in the campaign, giving her more wins than any pitcher in the NAIA without a loss... Broke the Cascade Conference career records for wins and saves, and was off to a 5-0 start with a 0.79 ERA in CCC play... Recorded her 500th career strikeout on March 6 against Providence (Mont.) and recorded 71 strikeouts with 18 walks on the season.

2019: Voted the Schutt Sports National Fastpitch Coaches Association's NAIA Pitcher of the Year, a first-team NAIA All-American and the Cascade Conference Pitcher of the Year... Went 36-4 with a 1.19 ERA over 252 innings pitched, setting CCC records for wins and shutouts (15) in a single season... Her win total was the 10th-highest in NAIA history and the highest for any pitcher at the NAIA level in six years... Totaled an SOU-record 207 strikeouts with a .189 opponents' batting average, allowing one or no earned runs in 25 of 36 starts... Was named to the NAIA World Series All-Tournament team with a 4-1 record at the final site, and in the championship clincher gave up just one earned run against Oklahoma City in her 33rd complete game... Registered nine wins and three shutouts in the playoffs, amassing 69 2/3 postseason innings... Struck out 10 or more batters on three occasions... Ended the season with the SOU record for career victories at 77.

2018: Named to the All-Cascade Conference team and received a CCC Gold Glove at pitcher… Broke SOU’s single-season wins record by going 27-6 with a 2.06 ERA – totaling 206.2 innings, 21 complete games, six shutouts and four saves… During the regular season, went 20-6 with a 1.83 ERA; and during conference play, went 12-3 with a 1.52 ERA… Made 10 starts during the postseason and amassed 53 2/3 innings and a 6-0 record… With SOU facing elimination at the NAIA World Series, posted three complete-game victories in a four-game span, allowing just three runs in 21 frames as she knocked out Freed-Hardeman, Marian and Oklahoma City consecutively… Had 24 starts in which she went at least five innings and surrendered two or fewer runs… Was the first Raider in nine years to exceed 20 innings and 20 complete games… Had an opponents’ batting average of .247 with 134 strikeouts compared to 55 walks.

2017: Took on a starring role in the circle as a true freshman, going 14-7 with a 3.06 ERA over 144.1 innings in 22 starts (including 10 complete games) and 12 relief appearances… Totaled 95 strikeouts and 73 walks with an opponents’ average of .250… During the NAIA Opening Round, allowed just one earned run over 10 1/3 innings and pitched a complete-game shutout on May 16 against William Carey… Had a season-high nine strikeouts in a win at Oregon Tech on April 14.

High School: Graduated in 2017 from Mater Dei High… As a senior, was named the OC Sidelines Pitcher of the Year, first-team all-county and first-team all-league after posting an 18-3 record with a 1.74 ERA. She didn’t allow an earned run in five complete games during the postseason, leading her team to a California Interscholastic Federation championship… Was the Trinity League co-Pitcher of the Year as a junior with a 17-10 record… Completed 100 hours of community service during her four years.

Personal: Born Gabriela Marie Sandoval on Oct. 31, 1997 in Anaheim, California… The daughter of Anna and Miguel Sandoval... Has an older brother, also Miguel, who played football at Marist College… Majoring in health and physical education with a psychology minor.
